I was born in Birmingham, AL and moved to the metro Atlanta area when I was in elementary school. Growing up in the south has been an interesting mix of deep culture, deep roots, and diverse experiences. Spending time in California during the summers to visit my dad offered a different perspective. And over the years, I’ve enjoyed living in California and Colorado but am back home in Georgia and here to stay.
I am fortunate to have a supporting husband and two beautiful children who inspire me everyday. I’ve always created art, but am finally putting some of my creations in the public eye. Most of my art in the past couple of decades have consisted of demonstrations for my high school students who have continually inspired me to keep learning and growing personally. I decided to become a teacher, so that I could give students a “safe place” within a school to create, grow, and connect. I work to give them the tools they need to find their own voice within art and in turn they expand my perspectives .
Having the time to pursue who I am as an artist has alluded me from time to time. But I will continue to plug away to discover my true self and hope I can convey some of it in my pieces. As a result, the majority of my work deals with degrees of balance. As I work through my personal art, I hope to gain understanding of my world as I see it and delve into the objects I see everyday to discover their hidden treasures.
